Waste Management's Service Guide
Trash Day
Time and Place
Please have your trash out by 7:00 AM at the curb or alleyway, outside of fences or gates. For alley service, please mark your street address in the alley or on your containers for identification by out drivers.
Problems
Please report any problems or service issues within 24 hours of your pickup day. If after hours, please leave a message and we will respond to your call on the next business day.
Holiday Service
We observe six holidays each year:
- New Year's Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
Holidays may affect regular collection schedules. If your trash day falls on or after a WM observed holiday, trash/recycle collections will generally be delayed by one day for the remainder of the holiday week. For example, if the 4th of July falls on a Tuesday, customers who usually have Tuesday service will shift to Wednesday. However, in this example, Monday customers will still receive their service on Monday. Please call the WM office for a recorded message regarding any changes to your regular collection day.
Container Size
To reduce the chances of injury to our drivers, please use trash bags or trash containers no larger than 32 gallons, weighing no more than fourty pounds when full. Whether you use a Waste Management container or your own container, all household trash must be bagged. Please do not use 55-gallon drums, paper sacks, or boxes as trash containers. Bagging and securely tying all loose trash will eliminate blowing trash on windy days and help reduce odors and insects.
Other Materials
Yard Waste
Please cut branches into four foot lengths or less and tie them in bundles no more than 12 inches in diameter. Please limit to four bundles per week. Leaves and grass clippings should be enclosed in trash bags, tied securely, and placed with other items for outside collection. Please limit to ten bags per week.
Think Green: Consider mulching or composting your leaves and grass clippings.
Cardboard Boxes
Flatten cardboard boxes prior to placing at the curb for disposal. Please do not use cardboard boxes as trash containers since they break apart very easily and often cannot handle the weight of the items placed in them.
Think Green: Consider recycling cardboard boxes at local recycling drop-off centers or become a WM curbside recycling customer. To learn more about Waste Management's recycling program, see details in this brochure, or call us at 303-797-1600.
Non-collectible Items
Soil, sod, loose yard debris, rocks, uncut or untied branches, bricks, concrete, building materials, or auto parts. Contact Customer Service at 303-797-1600 for information on disposing of these items.
Hazardous Waste
We are unable to collect commercial or industrial waste, fire extinguishers, propane tanks, or hazardous chemical waste of any kind (flammables, explosives, or other chemicals) as part of your residential collection service. Household hazardous waste includes paint and stain, motor oil, photographic chemicals, ammunition, insecticides, etc. For residential hazardous waste collection, we suggest calling you county health department or municipal office since many counties and cities have made special arrangements for the collection of hazardous material.
Important Reminders
Please make sure there are no bicycles, toys, or yard items at the curb on pickup day. We are not responsible for the loss or damage to personal items.
Customers are responsible for the maintenance and safe use of Waste Management trash containers. We strongly recommend that you periodically sanitize your containers and always bag you trash to help control odors.
If you use hypodermic needles, please dispose of them in a specialized "sharps" container. Needles which are not disposed of properly pose a medical hazard for our drivers, other waste handlers, and potentially your own neighbors.
Special Services & Events
Please contact us for pricing and scheduling pickup of large items, construction debris, excess yard waste, fencing, decking materials, etc. at least 24 hours in advance of your collection day. Construction roll-offs and portable toilets are available for your remodeling or construction projects. We can also handle your special event needs with portable toilets, sinks, and specialized trash and recycling containers.

Curbside Recycling Program
Waste Management's commitment to the environment... and to you.
Why Recycle?
As the industry leader, we understand the impact of trash on our environment. We see it every day. We also see the huge difference recycling can make with minimal effort when we all work together, for example:
- Americans throw away enough office paper annually to build a wall 12 feet high, stretching from Los Angeles to New York City.
- Americans throw away enough aluminum every three months to rebuild our entire commercial air fleet.
Collection Day
Recycling collection occurs every other week on the same day as your trash collection. If your recycling pickup day falls on or after a WM observed holiday, revise the schedule as you would for your trash pickup. Please be sure to have your recyclables on the curb by 7:00 AM.
What Goes in the Container?
More household recyclables than ever are now accepted in our recycling program:
- Aluminum & Steel: aluminum cans, pie tins, aluminum foil, steel/tin cans, empty aerosol cans. Containers should be rinsed and free of debris.
- Glass: food and beverage grade glass only. Please remove lids and rinse containers.
- Paper: magazines, office paper, paperboard, newspapers, junk mail, cardboard, phone books, brown paper bags. Place shredded paper into a brown paper bag, staple it closed and place into your recycle container. Cut and flatten cardboard/paperboard into 2' X 2' squares.
- Plastic: plastic bottles with "bottleneck" openings such as milk, pop, detergent, or shampoo bottles. Only plastics with either of the two symbols shown here
and
are acceptable.
Items We Cannot Accept:
Ceramics, light bulbs, plate glass, containers that have held hazardous materials like motor oil, plastic bags, wide-mouth plastics such as butter tubs or yogurt containers, food-contaminated items, or household garbage.
