Trash Pickup Update

I called in to Allied Waste today to find out the status of trash pickup; their recording states that they are running behind due to the bad weather this week as well as the Christmas holiday, but they will be making pickups Sunday 31 Dec and Monday 1 Jan in order to catch up on trash collection.

They request that you leave your trash at the curb and ensure bags and cans are free of snow to make pickup easier.

Christmas Tree Recycling

Between Dec. 26 and Jan. 14, residents can drop off their Christmas trees at any of the following
locations:
  • Olympic Park, 15501 E. Yale Ave. (east of Chambers Road)
  • Del Mar Park, 6th Ave. and Peoria St. (west parking lot)
  • Murphy Creek Golf Course, 1700 S. Old Tom Morris Rd.
  • Saddle Rock Golf Course, 21705 E. Arapahoe Rd.

Trees should be free of nails, decorations and stands. They will be turned into mulch, which will be available free of charge between Dec. 28 and Jan. 13, at all of the tree drop-off locations. Residents wanting to get mulch should bring their own bags, containers and shovels. Call 303-739-7177 for more information.

Snow Removal Update

Due to limited snow removal equipment, the city follows a prioritization plan for snow removal that does not include residential streeets except under extreme conditions as determined by the Director of Public Works.

Because our streets are in such bad condition, we have contacted the City of Aurora about the plan for plowing the neighborhood streets, and have been informed that the Director of Public Works and City Manager have decided that all streets, including residential areas, will be plowed. So, the streets in the Lake Shore community will be cleared in due course in accordance with the city's snow removal plan.

The city typically does not permit private contractors to clear public streets, but due to current conditions, the city has waived this restriction in the event Homeowner's Associations wish to hire contractors to clear their streets ahead of time.

The city has provided a Frequently Asked Questions list regarding snow removal at http://www.auroragov.org/AuroraGov/News/027134 .

Trash Pickup

Last week's trash pickup was missed due to the blizzard and poor road conditions. Allied Waste will:
  • Make the next TRASH pickup on Saturday 30 Dec.
  • Make the next RECYCLING pickup the following week, resuming the normal bi-weekly recycling pickup schedule.

4th Of July Celebration

You are invited to participate in the Lake Shore Independence Day celebration! Schedule of events:
