The Lake Shore Community Association Newsletter, Sep 2006

Note from Vassar Elementary

We would like to welcome all members of the Vassar Elementary Community to the 2006-2007 school year. Thank you for the past community support you have provided to our children through OASIS, PTA, and the Accountability Committee at Vassar Elementary.

Great things happen at Vassar. Next year, we hope to offer an extended program in physical education along with an after school choir/instrumental program. We would like to thank all the volunteers who have given of their time and talents to help make Vassar Elementary a place where learning occurs.

We always welcome volunteers and appreciate whatever talents you have to offer, whether it is organizational or previous teaching experience. If you would like to volunteer, even an hour a week, we would be very appreciative. Please come by and see us. We would love to meet with you.

Scott Habermehl, Principal & Bonnie Hargrove, Asst. Principal

Thank You

Our Pool Opening Party was a big hit. Thank you to Jessica Kelly, Haley Hurlburt, Brenda Hummel, Nancy Franklin, and everyone who contributed to the potluck.

Thank you to everyone who made the 4th of July party a success, especially Brenda Hummel, Kim Fawcett, Sue Aumiller, and Nancy Franklin.

Note from Our PAR Officer

In the past few months the southeast Aurora area has seen a drastic rise in garage burglaries. They are occurring during all days of the week, and all times of the day. In 99% of these, the garage doors were left open by the residents of the home. Some victims were home at the time of the crime, some were away.

I would like to remind everyone to pass the word, close your garage doors. Even if residents are in the house with the garage door open, this does not reduce the risk of being victimized. Please pass this information on to neighbors, family, and friends.

Officer Todd Renner, Aurora Police Department

The Lake Shore Lake

What a difference a year makes. Remember (and how could anyone forget) last year we were dealing with algae blooms, a lovely odor, and dead fish. With a lot of hard work, close contact with Aqua Sierra, and constant monitoring, our lake now looks the way it should.

Even though it looks good, during the month of Jun, a report was made concerning the quality of the water in the lake. This report indicated that there were chemicals that had gone into the lake causing the poor water quality. All drainage eventually ends up in the lake and the effects could be costly and damaging, so please be mindful of the drainage situation.

Please remember to stay off of the rocks surrounding the lake.

Neighborhood Watch

National Night Out was on Tuesday, 1 Aug from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Anyone care to guess when the severe rainstorm hit? You got it on Tuesday, 1 Aug from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank the brave souls who came with trusty umbrellas and tried to wait it out. After roughly 35 minutes, we called it off and rescheduled for the next evening at the pool. I hope those who attended found our meeting informative.

I would like to thank all the block captains for all their hard work, especially those who were able to attend or were able to assist in handing out fliers. A special thank you needs to go to my Neighborhood Watch partner in crime, Sherman Cohen. This is truly a team effort and the job couldnt get done without everyone's help.

Over the past couple of years we have seen a drastic drop in the amount of incidents occurring here in our community. I think our Neighborhood Watch Program has been a success and we will continue to keep up the good work.

Reminder: Please report all crimes to either your block captain or Lisa Kelly. This helps in determining police presence, so please help by providing this information.

Lisa Kelly, Board President

Trash Cans

As a reminder, trash day is every week on Friday. You are allowed to put out your trash the night before. Please be sure to put away all trashcans within 24 hours to avoid an unsightly condition violation, which may result in a fine.

Website

Just as a reminder, Lake Shore has two websites. The address for the MSI website is www.msihoa.com. There you can find information on your account balance, legal documents, community events, and much more.

Your other community website is at www.onlinelakeshore.org. This website is full of great information on your community.

ACC Request Reminder

Homeowners who wish to make permanent improvements to the exterior of their homes need to submit an ACC request form to the ACC. This includes colors for exterior house painting, plans for landscaping and fencing, and the installation of decks and dog runs, to name a few. Please submit a request form with a plat map of your home. You will need to indicate on the map, or make a drawing, showing each item of your improvement. Please be specific in the types of trees, bushes, sod, etc. you are planning to use. If you are adding a deck, give the dimensions, material, and placement on your plat map. Try to be as specific as possible about your improvement. If you need a request form, please visit www.msihoa.com and log on to your communitys site or contact Jim Whatton at 720-974-4221 or e-mail jwhatton@msihoa.com.

The intent of this requirement is not to hinder people from freedom of choice but to ensure their choices are in harmony with the overall appearance of the community. An attractive, harmonious community will be a desirable place in which to live and will also prove to be a better investment over time than one in which architectural control is not enforced.

The Board of Directors and the ACC would like to let everyone know that the committee has 45 days to respond to a request. This time period is outlined in the legal documents of the association.
